In short: the game needs a few cookies to remember your single playthrough. Google Analytics only runs if you accept it. There are no accounts, and no names or e-mail addresses are collected.

Who runs this site

Moirai is an unofficial, non-commercial fan homage to Moirai (2013) by Chris Johnson, Brad Barrett and John Oestmann. It is made and run by a fan as a hobby: no ads, nothing for sale.

Necessary cookies and storage

The game stores these on your device so that it works: so you play only once, can continue where you left off and see the game in your language. They are needed to run the game you chose to play, so they don't rely on your consent, and they are not used for advertising.

What the game server stores

When you play, the server keeps:

  • your anonymous player id and the language you play in;
  • when you started, made your decisions and finished;
  • the two decisions you make in the game;
  • the three answers you type at the end. They are stored and may be shown to another player of the same language later, so don't write anything personal in them.

This data is stored in Google Cloud Firestore in Frankfurt, Germany (europe-west3) and kept while the game is online, unless you ask for it to be deleted. To limit abuse, a hashed (pseudonymised) form of your IP address is kept together with the times of your recent requests and is deleted automatically, usually within a day; the address itself is not stored.

This data is needed to run the game you chose to play; the hashed IP address is needed to protect it from abuse.

The site is hosted by Vercel Inc. (USA), which processes standard request logs (such as IP address and browser type) to serve the pages. There are no accounts: no names, e-mail addresses or passwords are collected.

Google Analytics (only if you accept)

If you click “Accept”, the site loads Google Analytics 4, a service of Google Ireland Limited; Google LLC in the USA may also process the data. Until then nothing is loaded from Google: fonts and game files come from this site.

It counts visits and page views, your language, device and browser type, the rough location Google derives from your IP address, and coarse game progress (starting, reaching the cave, the choices made, finishing). It never receives your player id or anything you type.

Google signals and ad personalization are turned off, and no advertising cookies are set. Analytics cookies: _ga and _ga_Z3MNWWMHPZ, for up to 13 months. Google keeps the detailed analytics data for 14 months.

Analytics runs only on the basis of your consent. You can change your mind at any time with “Cookie settings” below or at the bottom of the title screen; if you withdraw your consent, the analytics cookies are deleted.
